《苦儿流浪记》是马洛最著名的作品,也是一本经典世界名著。写成于1878年。小说是当时社会的写照:农村破产、工人们在恶劣的劳动条件下艰苦劳作、童工数量剧增以及在法律允许下被残酷剥削。小主人公雷米原为一个农妇所收养,他八岁时,农妇的丈夫——一位石匠——因工伤致残,生活无着,便把雷米卖给了流浪艺人,原意大利的著名歌手维达里。师父带着他的小马戏团和雷米沿路卖艺,一个寒夜,维达里冻死在巴黎城郊的雪地上,雷米为一位花匠收留。但不久花匠遭雹灾破产,被送进了债务监狱,一家人也离散四方,雷米重新流浪卖艺,他在万难中毫不气馁,顽强求生不息,最后找到了生身母亲,成为富家的继承人。

作者简介:
埃克多·马洛(1830~1907),法国小说家。以写情节剧小说(即以情节取胜的小说)载入法国近代文学史的作家之一。他出生于法国的一个公证人家庭,身为律师的父亲希望马洛继承他的事业从事法律工作,但他热衷于文学创作。他是一位多产作家。他一生写了70多部小说,而且都十分畅销,《苦儿流浪记》更是家喻户晓。
