“My favorite Emily Henry book so far! My first impressions of Daphne and Miles make them seem like an unlikely pair, but I loved how their relationship unfolded throughout the story. My favorite part, however, is how Daphne finds confidence in herself and a sense of belonging (the setting truly becomes a character in this book). Daphne becomes even more relatable throughout the tale as she comes to realize that, like others who have let her down, she too is flawed and has room to grow. ”

“If Emily Henry has thousands of fans, I am one of them. If Emily Henry has one fan, I am that one. If Emily Henry has no fans, I am dead. Daphne and Miles are the comfortable reliability of your dinnertime game show & the warmest quilt of eccentricities. A beautiful friends-to-lovers story.”

“This is my first read from Emily Henry (I'm late, I know!) and it was such a refreshing and fun read. While it does delve into serious topics, Daphne and Miles are funny and the kinds of characters you want to root for (especially given the rough beginning of the book)! Julia Whelan does a fantastic job, as usual, of portraying the characters' emotions fully as well. Sometimes pretend 'man voices' can be super awkward but she makes it work, as though Daphne is telling the story to a friend perhaps. Overall this was a great time and I flew through the audiobook! ”

“Anyone who can relate to the song, The Archer by Taylor Swift will adore this contemporary romance. It’s funny, witty and sarcastic. The FMC, Daphne, is real, full of emotion and her character truly inspired me. Her love of books was so relatable. The MMC, Miles, is the most down to earth, humble, good and sexy guy. He is my newest book boyfriend. I loved watching Miles and Daphne’s relationship grow. Their personalities were what made me fall in love with them. The secondary characters were just as enjoyable. I love that you can apply the lessons they learn to your own personal life. It was phenomenally done. This will be a book I plan to reread multiple times! ”

“Emily Henry continues to shine in this delightful fake-dating, friends-to-lovers, slow-burn rom-com. Admittedly, I'll read whatever Emily Henry writes, but this one gets extra points for its Michigan setting and New Girl-esque main characters. The excellent narration is the icing on this particularly enjoyable cake!”

“If Emily Henry has thousands of fans, then I am one of them. If Emily Henry has just one fan, then I am that one. If Emily Henry has no fans, I am dead. Daphne and Miles are - to me - the comfortable reliability of your dinnertime game show of choice, and the warmest quilt of eccentricities used to get cozy, respectively. Daphne is a funny, punctual children's librarian, and the product of an unreliable father and a kick-ass single mom. Miles (big Klaus from Umbrella Academy vibes) is an attentive, ADHD-coded, farmer's market regular whose family issues would take a while to unpack. Much like what I loved about Happy Place, the weight placed on friendships in this book is so lovely and real. The romance is not neglected though and Daphne and Miles kiss in a way that made me look into the camera. Gorgeous intimacy, and a beautiful friendship to lovers pipeline.”

“This was my first foray into the world of Emily Henry and I am ready to take a deep dive into all of her books. Daphne, the protagonist of the story, is dealing with heartbreak after her fiancé leaves her for his best friend from childhood. The story of her figuring out what to do next is at times heartbreaking, resilient, and downright hilarious. The characters in this book, from equally heartbroken Miles, to her flighty father, to co-workers who appear the exact opposite of her, make up a well thought out, intertwined cast that I would love to grab a drink with after work. Small-town and scenic Waning Bay, Michigan serves as the background, and makes me want to book a summer trip there tomorrow. Highly recommend!”

“I had a lot of fun listening to this one (my very first Emily Henry!)! The main protagonists are really loveable, and the slow-burn romance was well crafted. They have some issues, there is drama (obviously!), but still, the story is quite lighthearted and sometimes really funny! ”

AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!
Named a Most Anticipated book of 2024 by TIME ∙ The New York Times ∙ Goodreads ∙ Entertainment Weekly ∙ Today ∙ Paste ∙ SheReads ∙ BookPage ∙ Woman's World ∙ The Nerd Daily and more!
A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.
Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.
Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads—Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?
But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?
Emily Henry is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Happy Place, Book Lovers, People We Meet on Vacation, and Beach Read. She studied creative writing at Hope College, and now spends most of her time in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the part of Kentucky just beneath it. Find her on Instagram @emilyhenrywrites.

“Emily Henry has made a name for herself as among the hottest romance writers in the game right now.”—People
“Funny Story is Henry’s latest romance — and her steamiest one so far. It’s a mixture of will-they-won’t-they in a way that makes you really want them to. They’re the protagonists in separate love stories who are brought together by heartbreak. Daphne and Miles are characters you can empathize with and root for.”
—Associated Press
“A rising-star writer of literary romance, Emily Henry has garnered a devout readership by consistently delivering dreamy modern love stories. Building on a run of best-sellers—from Beach Read (2020) to Happy Place (2023)—in which Henry found innovative ways to subvert tropes of the genre, Funny Story puts the author’s signature spin on the idea that opposites attract.”
—TIME
“Henry doesn't disappoint. It's sweet, passionate, and just hot enough to steam up the book, if not set it on fire. Just like in her other novels, the author's characters are deep, realistic and relatable…Henry is so particularly talented at creating romance that eschews tropes and clichés but still satisfies our innate desire for predictability and happy endings in this genre. It's certainly not easy to balance the comfortingly formulaic with the tantalizingly unique. Funny Story might hit the mark best of all of Henry's books so far.”
—USA Today
“When romance novelist Emily Henry releases a new book, it’s nothing short of a literary event. And this spring’s Funny Story — which has already been named one of the most anticipated books of 2024 by everyone from the New York Times to the Today show — is sure to be no exception... this sumptuous novel is Henry at her very best.”

This is a heartwarming take on summer love.”

“Reliable bestseller Henry has written another surefire hit that manages to be dramatic, sexy, and fun....As always, Henry’s biggest strength is the sharp, often hilarious dialogue that makes the story a joy to read. Henry fans, rejoice: This is her best yet.”

"With her latest impeccably written rom-com, literary supernova Henry continues to gracefully dispense wit, whimsy, and wisdom in equal amounts. Fans of opposites-attract love stories will revel in the buoyant banter and swoonworthy romantic moments, not to mention Henry’s delightful pairing of a precision-driven children’s librarian and a jack-of-all-trades winery employee who could give Matthew McConaughey lessons in chill."
