A gripping literary horror novel about the death of a haunted town

On winter solstice, the birds disappeared, and the mist arrived.

The inhabitants of Nebulah quickly learn not to venture out after dark. But it is hard to stay indoors: cabin fever sets in, and the mist can be beguiling too.

Eventually only six remain. Like the rest of the townspeople, Pete has nowhere else to go. After he rescues a stranded psychic from a terrible fate, heโ€™s given a warning: he will be dead by solstice unless he leaves townโ€”soon.

Lois Murphy has won a handful of prizes for her writing, including the Northern Territory Literary Award and the Sisters in Crime Best New Talent Prize. The majority of Soon, her first novel, was written while living in a caravan park in Carnarvon. She currently lives in Melbourne, Australia.

David Linski (a.k.a. David Ligudzinski and David Atlas) is a graduate of the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia. He has numerous voice-over credits, an extensive theatrical rรฉsumรฉ, and has starred in short and feature films both in the United States and Australia.

Reviews

โ€œWonderfully tautโ€ฆlaced from start to finish with creeping dread.โ€ฆReaders who appreciate subtle horror grounded in human failings will appreciate the buildup and maintenance of tension through this book, as well as the fateful ending, which successfully drives home that same vulnerable humanity.โ€

โ€œMurphyโ€™s striking debut explores the effects of leaving your home behindโ€ฆWill appeal to Stephen King fans thanks to the picture Murphy paints of a small town left behind to rot in isolation.โ€

โ€œA solid new entry into the horror scene filled with anxiety and dread.โ€

โ€œExquisitely written.โ€

โ€œCharms and beguiles right up to the endโ€”with an ending that might stop your heart.โ€

โ€œLike a combination of Josh Malermanโ€™s Bird Box and the brilliant crime novels of Jane Harper.โ€
