“Quirky and wholly entertaining! I adore the witty banter and realistic character growth. Reading about authors writing books tickles my fancy, but it’s even more endearing when they fall in love while doing so.”

“I adored this book: the Hollywood setting, the grumpy/sunshine romance, and the characters who felt incredibly real. Center nails the inner-world of her characters and kept me turning pages with genuine concern and fluttering hope.”

“Only Katherine Center could write an absolutely hilarious and joyful story packed with deeply emotional scenes that absolutely wreck you and then bring you back to a hopeful place filled with love, all while intertwining a dreamy, everyday love story. This is her best work! In the vein of Emma's dad, you need a little bit of sadness to make the happiness shine. The dialog, the characters, and the relationship are what make this book special. I listened to this book on Libro.fm - the bonus chapter for the audiobook WAS EVERYTHING. And the author's note gives new meaning and life to romance and why they are critical to read and enjoy. I would definitely save this book from a fire!”

“The Rom-Commers is maybe Katherine Center's best yet. It’s the story of two screenwriters: the first is wildly successful and absolutely does not need help jumping from action movies to a measly Rom-Com. The second is the ghostwriter sent to salvage his truly terrible screenplay. Their research and working relationship is a comedy of errors that finds us curious about each writer’s backstory, and absolutely cheering for their happily ever after. The book is funny, and real, a little sad, and unputdownable in the same way that you just CANNOT pause the movie right before Andi realizes it wasn’t just an article, or Joe Fox shows up with Brinkley at the park. I thought maybe I’d make this a 4.5 star review, because I almost always save that full 5 stars for a book that’s life-changing in some way. Then I heard the author’s note, read by the woman herself. And as good as the book is, her defense of love stories amidst the disdain they receive in the literary world had me shouting 'YES!' to my empty living room. “If you’ve been shamed away from reading love stories, hello friend, come over to the fun side. The ridicule, it’s WRONG, in the way the world has of being so very wrong about so many things.' Yes, Katherine. I’ll be there on the hill of love stories, especially the ones you write, forever. Also - Patti Murin is the PERFECT narrator for this book (and wonderful all the time). ”

“Take one grumpy divorced and Oscar winning screenwriter and add a curly-haired quirky RomCom devotee trying to make a name for herself after devoting much of her adult life to the care of her father and you get a delightful love story! I always enjoy a meta RomCom making a RomCom and the discussions about the trope add to the fun. I found myself rooting for both characters, alone or together, because they deserve some wins! If you love romcoms, lots of sexual tension, and a whole heaping of personal growth, then Katherine Center's new book is for you! ”

“Two screen writers, Emma and Charlie, are forced to rewrite a romcom screen play that is currently beyond terrible (read the book to get this reference). As the two write and research romantic scenes, they're own romance plays out. From line dancing, to the cutest guinea pig, to a 'research' kiss, and scary health diagnoses, this romcom is cheesy in the best expected ways while also integrating real life setbacks and worries. I couldn't listen to the audio fast enough. ”

“The best romantic comedy I have ever read! I give it 25 stars! I will never forget this book and I will definitely read it again. I was invested from page one and cried like a baby at the end. I LOVED the main characters. They were so authentic and relatable. Emma was so sweet, down to earth and just plain awesome! Charlie was so kind and endearing. I was truly sad it ended. ”

“I absolutely loved Hello Stranger, and once again, Katherine Center brings charm, wit, intelligence, and a touch of spice with The Rom-Commers. From the very beginning, you are rooting for Emma--her success, her happiness, her future. And then add Charlie, who seems like a old curmudgeon stuck in a young body. But as Emma gets to know the real Charlie, so do we. And while you occasionally want to smack him upside the head for being so dense, you are rooting for Charlie as well. Also, since I have wild and curly red hair, I am hoping my famous screenwriter is right around the corner!”

“[Patti] Murin's portrayal of Emma is captivating--a blend of sass, humor, and empathy with impeccable timing and nuances.”—AudioFile
She’s rewriting his love story. But can she rewrite her own?
Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, and writing romantic comedies—good ones! That win contests! But she’s also been the sole caretaker for her kind-hearted dad, who needs full-time care. Now, when she gets a chance to re-write a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates—The Charlie Yates! Her personal writing god!—it’s a break too big to pass up.
Emma’s younger sister steps in for caretaking duties, and Emma moves to L.A. for six weeks for the writing gig of a lifetime. But what is it they say? Don’t meet your heroes? Charlie Yates doesn’t want to write with anyone—much less “a failed, nobody screenwriter.” Worse, the romantic comedy he’s written is so terrible it might actually bring on the apocalypse. Plus! He doesn’t even care about the script—it’s just a means to get a different one green-lit. Oh, and he thinks love is an emotional Ponzi scheme.
But Emma’s not going down without a fight. She will stand up for herself, and for rom-coms, and for love itself. She will convince him that love stories matter—even if she has to kiss him senseless to do it. But . . . what if that kiss is accidentally amazing? What if real life turns out to be so much . . . more real than fiction? What if the love story they’re writing breaks all Emma’s rules—and comes true?

Reviews
"Center, the prolific author of many romances, clearly understands what it takes to create a winning romantic comedy and puts Charlie and Emma through many of the most delightful rom-com tropes (enemies to lovers, forced proximity). But the book, like all of Center’s work, doesn’t completely eschew darkness—both Emma and Charlie are dealing with trauma and grief. A winning romance that deftly balances heft and humor." --Kirkus
"Winsome and charming, Center's latest is that perfect blend of romance and overcoming life challenges that her readers treasure." --Booklist (starred review)
