Learn moreThe US Navy SEALs created a legend that would grow throughout the Vietnam War, earning an enemy bounty to anyone who could capture or kill one. As leader of the SEALs, Captain Robert A. Gormly tells his amazing story, taking us into some of the most hair-raising missions ever assigned.
After a career including two tours of duty in Vietnam as well as top-secret missions in the Persian Gulf, Gormly examines war from a strategic point of view as well as from his own personal experience. In his vivid, gut-wrenching descriptions, the Mekong comes alive, as hours of careful stalking explode into incredible fusillades of violence. Candid, balanced, and tough-minded, Combat Swimmer is a fascinating and thrilling look into the life of an extraordinary kind of fighting man.
Captain Robert A. Gormly, USN (Ret.)ย served twenty-nine years as a Navy SEAL, as a platoon leader in SEAL Team Two in Vietnam, as the commanding officer of SEAL Team Two, as the Executive Officer of UDT-22, and as the commanding officer of SEAL Team Six. His awards include the Silver Star, three Legions of Merit, three Bronze Stars (two in combat), The Defense Meritorious Medal, and a Purple Heart. He now lives in San Diego, California.
Adams Morgan is a theater-trained actor who has appeared in venues around the United States. He has also narrated for National Public Radio and performed radio dramas and historical reenactments. He lives in New York City.
Reviews
“A fascinating look at the skill and guts these men displayed under fire.”
โ[Gormly] is a warrior for the working dayโฆin a harsh world, it will comfort many to know that men with Gormlyโs spirit, character and patriotism wear this countryโs uniform.โ
“Adams Morgan sounds like Sea Hunt star Lloyd Bridges, and that's probably why he’s so effective in reading this memoir of a Vietnam-era Navy SEAL…Morgan’s voice has a clipped, tense quality that serves the book well.”
โOffering the perspective of both a front-line combatant and a senior commander and special operations policymaker, [Gormlyโs] book is full of gripping accounts of parachuting, diving, and firefights, and it adds to our knowledge of his fellow SEALs.โ
“Suspense filled…A candid and unstinting military memoir.”
“Bob Gormly tells his story with remarkable wit, wisdom, drama, and grace. Combat Swimmer is a superb and fascinating story about the US Navy SEALs, from one of the best of the breed.”
