Learn moreA fascinating portrait of mid-1950s America by the iconic Charles Beaumont
He was a leader of men, but he was evil. He was a stranger, but he brought lust and love, rape and hate to this quiet southern town. He was โฆ the intruder.
It was a sleepy southern town with nice folks and good schools. Then the intruder arrived from the North. With him came trouble, fear, and hate so vicious it could turn neighbor against neighbor, child against child, white against blackโand destroy them all.
Charles Beaumont (1929โ1967) was a prolific American writer of speculative fiction, including the signature collection Night Ride, and Other Journeys, also available from Blackstone and Skyboat. His stories provided the source material for over twenty classic Twilight Zone episodes.
Stefan Rudnicki first became involved with audiobooks in 1994. Now a Grammy-winning audiobook producer, he has worked on more than three thousand audiobooks as a narrator, writer, producer, or director. He has narrated more than three hundred audiobooks. A recipient of multiple AudioFile Earphones Awards, he was presented the coveted Audie Award for solo narration in 2005, 2007, and 2014, and was named one of AudioFileโs Golden Voices in 2012.
Reviews
โStriking in its timelinessโฆA swift and powerful novelโฆCompelling.โ
โThe Intruder hits with the impact of a Magnum slugโฆFrom the beginning to the pounding climax, it carries the reader from chapter to chapter with the stinging shock of successive slaps in the face.โ
โBeaumont always knows exactly which information to provide to the reader, and what to withhold, in order to create maximum disquiet.โ
