A Prayer before Dawn is the true story of one man's fight to survive inside Klong Prem prison, the notorious Bangkok Hilton. Billy Moore traveled to Thailand to escape a life of drug addiction and alcoholism. He managed to overcome his inner demons for a time but relapsed after trying ya ba, a highly addictive form of methamphetamine. Moore's life quickly descended into chaos, drug dealing, and violence until he was eventually arrested and imprisoned in Klong Prem, a place where life has no value. A Prayer before Dawn is no ordinary prison memoir; it's the story of one man's struggle to survive in one of the world's toughest prisons. It's also a story of redemption in the most unlikely of places.

Billy Moore was born in Liverpool, England. He has worked as a teacher, a Muay Thai fighter, and an extra on film sets. Following his release from prison in Thailand, he returned to Britain, where he now lives with his family. He works as a motivational speaker and a drug counselor.

Rupert Farley is an actor from the United Kingdom. He has had various roles in movies such as Shakespeare in Love, From Hell, and Mrs. Brown. He is best known for his voice-acting work, which includes TV advertisements and animation.

Reviews

โ€œIn his riveting memoirโ€ฆMoore tells the true story of how his addiction to drugs landed him in the infamous Klong Prem prison (aka the โ€œBangkok Hiltonโ€), where he found himself fighting for his lifeโ€”literally.โ€

โ€œA relentlessly active account of a Liverpool manโ€™s experiences in Thailandโ€™s underworld of kick-boxing, drug dealing and prisonโ€ฆYou donโ€™t often come across someone who has met Sylvester Stallone and lived like Rambo.โ€

โ€œA Prayer before Dawn isโ€”at one and the same timeโ€”a true story, a prison drama, a survival movie, a desperate love story, and an extraordinary tale of redemption. Above all, it is a poignant and uniquely human story.โ€

โ€œWith a clear hierarchy within the inmates, crooked guards all around, and a heightened sense of danger lurking, Billy struggles with both his addiction to heroin and getting into this place riddled with unhinged individuals. When the opportunity arises to train again and do what he loves, it may be the only thing that can save Billy from truly breaking.โ€

โ€œ[A] Cannes hidden Gem: Joe Cole survives a Thai prison in A Prayer before Dawn. French director Jean-Stรฉphane Sauvaire traveled to Thailand to tell the real-life story of a British convict turned Muay Thai champion who hones his skills behind barsโ€ฆBased on Mooreโ€™s book about his time in one of Thailandโ€™s most brutal prisons, Klong Prem, aka the notorious โ€˜Bangkok Hilton.โ€™โ€
