At Mossgrove, the Phelan family farm, long-time hired hand Jack plays peacemaker as widow Martha Phelan battles her young son, Peter, who wants to modernise the farm. Tensions on the home front are bitter enough, but at the Conway farm across the river, more trouble is brewing. Slovenly Matt Conway feels trapped and abuses his wife, Biddy. Spurred on by a misguided belief that the Phelans got the best of him in a loan to buy land, he keeps vigil at a fence post plotting revenge ...

Alice Taylor is an Irish bestselling writer and novelist particularly known for her nostalgia works looking back at life in a small village. In 1984 she edited and published a local magazine, Candlelight, and in 1986 she published an illustrated collection of her poetry. However it was the launch of her book To School Through the Fields, published in May 1988, which brought her fame. She had numerous interviews on national shows including RTร‰ Radio's Gay Byrne Show and The Late Late Show. The next books were equally successful and have been sold internationally. Since then she has moved onto novels which have also become bestsellers.

Aoife McMahon trained at RADA and has since appeared in leading roles for the RSC, the National Theatre, the Young Vic, the Royal Court and the Abbey in Dublin. She has also appeared in numerous celebrated television roles on both sides of the Atlantic and was awarded the Canadian Gemini award for best actress in a leading role. She has narrated over 200 audiobooks. Her accolades include an AudioFile Earphones Award and a place in the Top Ten audiobooks as listed in The Irish Times, The New York Times and Amazon's top picks.

Reviews

'An amiable cast and description aplenty for those looking for a bit of an Irish idyll.' 'Taylor's flair for the dramatic creates an atmosphere of suspense; and folksy witticisms and homey evocations of rural life round out the tale.; 'Alice Taylor is an outstanding storyteller.' Expand reviews
