Fall River is beset by a threat that infiltrates people, driving them mad and turning them into...something else. Meanwhile creatures invade the town, and Lizze and her sister Emma race to figure out what they are and how to stop them. Told in a series of journal entries, letters and telegrams, the writing keeps the narrative moving swiftly while still taking time to linger on the juicy moments of horror. I also really enjoyed that there are queer characters in the novel, who are well written and completely believable. An excellent read for those long fall nights, so long as you don’t need to sleep any time soon.”
