Adam Prashaw's life was full of surprises from the moment he was born. Assigned female at birth, and with parents who had been expecting a boy, he spent years living as "Rebecca Danielle Adam Prashaw" before coming to terms with being a transgender man. Adam captured hearts with his humor, compassion, and intensity. After a tragic accident cut his life short, he left a legacy of changed lives and a trove of social media posts documenting his life, relationships, transition, and struggles with epilepsy, all with remarkable transparency and directness.
In Soar, Adam, Soar, his father, a former priest, retells Adam's story alongside his son's own words. From early childhood, through coming out first as a lesbian and then as a man, and his battles with epilepsy and refusal to give in, it chronicles Adam's drive to define himself, his joyful spirit, and his love of life, which continues to conquer all.
Rick Prashaw has had a diverse career as a journalist, Catholic priest, executive director of a national NGO, and political staff to members of Parliament. He is a winner of the National Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award. Rick lives in Ottawa.
After several years as a franchisee for Grand & Toy, John Dickhout developed a passion for training, leadership, and customer care, working in the Contact Centre space from 1999-2013, where he held directorial positions overseeing training and quality, and organizational development across North America and the Philippines. Heart failure led to John being listed for a heart transplant in November 2015, at which time he penned a "post-transplant goals/to-do list" which included, among other things, to "get an agent, and act professionally." On January 25, 2016, John received his gift of life-when he also became the "caretaker of Adam's heart"-and on October 6, 2017 he took a big step to keeping that to-do list promise when he signed on with Newton-Landry Management in Toronto. Since then, John has appeared on stages across Canada and had principal roles on several TV series, including Fear Thy Neighbor, See No Evil, Disasters at Sea, Bizarre Murders, The Dictator's Playbook, Untold Stories of the ER, and Hotel Paranormal.
