Cathy was a happy, blushing bride when Britain went to war with Germany three years ago.

But her youthful dreams were crushed by her violent husband, and even when he’s conscripted she knows it’s only a brief respite – divorce is not an option. Cathy, a true Brogan daughter, stays strong for her beloved little son Peter.

When her husband is declared missing in action, Cathy can finally allow herself to hope – in just 6 months she will legally be a widow. In the meantime, she has to keep Peter safe and fed. So she advertises for a lodger, and Sergeant Archie McIntosh of the Royal Engineers’ Bomb Disposal Squad turns up. Kind, clever and handsome, their mutual attraction is instant. But with her husband’s fate unclear, and the Blitz raging on over London’s East End, will Cathy ever have the love she deserves?

Jean Fullerton is the author of seven historical novels. She is a qualified District and Queen's nurse who has spent most of her working life in the East End of London, first as a Sister in charge of a team, and then as a District Nurse tutor. She is also a qualified teacher and spent twelve years lecturing on community nursing studies at a London university. She now writes full-time.

Annie is a London-based actress and voice artist with a wealth of experience. A highly regarded audio artist, she is the go-to voice for many top-selling authors, including Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, Roberta Kray, Jessie Keane, Helen Carey and Dilly Court. She is equally at home in front of a mic or performing in comedies, classics or contemporary shows.
