Four tales of love and adventure in the Old West introduce a cast of characters that includes a brave Texas ranger who risks his life against avenging outlaws to rescue the woman he secretly loves; a beautiful seductress comes between two brothers; a desperate fugitive seeks sanctuary with a peace-loving people; and a daring young schoolteacher journeys West to meet the man who has captured her heart.

Included are โ€œThe Ranger,โ€ โ€œCanyon Walls,โ€ โ€œAvalanche,โ€ and โ€œFrom Missouri.โ€

Zane Greyยฎ (1872โ€“1939), born in Ohio, was practicing dentistry in New York when he and his wife published his first novel. Grey presented the West as a moral battleground in which his characters are destroyed because of their inability to change or are redeemed through a final confrontation with their past. The man whose name is synonymous with Westerns made his first trip west in 1907 at age thirty-five. More than 130 films have been based on his work.

Robert G. Slade has been a professional actor for nearly thirty years, performing in film, television, radio, and stage work. He appeared in Casino Royale in 2006. He has spent much of his professional life in Canada but has been appearing across the UK in all media since moving to London in 2005.

Reviews

โ€œThe title story and three others concentrate on Texas, Arizona, Utahโ€”and Mexicoโ€”for wild backgrounds and vigorous action. The Ranger thwarts bandits and kidnappers and wins a Spanish beauty; Canyon Walls are a good hideout for Monty, lead him to a reformed life, a wifeโ€”and a pardon for his past misdeeds; Avalanche, plus the winter, imprisons two men, raised as brothers, now at odds over a girl, and brings them together in their efforts to survive; From Missouri comes young Jane Stacey to bring trouble to Springerโ€™s ranch but she gets a chance to stay in the West permanently. Robust.โ€
