Summary

Friedrich is training their new dog in the woods when he suddenly hears an ominous voice.

It's no other than his sister-in-law in a rather distressed state of mind.

Join us as we explore this touching reimagining of the Little Women universe, where hope shines brightest in the darkest of times. Whether youโ€™re a lifelong fan of the March sisters or discovering them for the first time, "Something to Believe In" is sure to warm your heart and inspire your spirit.

For the longest time I wanted to write Friedrich/Amy fan fic, and I must say, I don't think I have come across a story with just the two of them talking. I also wanted to touch on the subject of Amy's and Laurie's difficulties to have children and how hard that must have been.

The storyline of Friedrich growing up without his father is from a fanfic called "travail" by @littlerumbird.

Jo's desire to get married, being lonely and wanting a family, can be found in Little Women chapters "all alone" and "surprises" and Louisa May Alcott's letters and diaries. Friedrich Bhaer is based on philosopher Henry David Thoreau, who Louisa was in love with. He appears in literal disguises in all of her novels.

Emil's dog Christopher Columbus is mentioned in Little Men.

Jo and Friedrich name their youngest son Theodore, I believe this is because Amy and Laurie are his godparents. Also, both Laurie and Friedrich were named after a German immigrant called Charles Follen. He was one of the founders of the Transcendentalist movement and a good friend of Louisa May Alcott's uncle. His full name was "Karl Christian Friedrich Theodore Follen". So both Friedrich and Laurie (and Jo's and Friedrich's son) are named after this one man. Charles also married an American female writer called Eliza (like Friedrich married Jo).
