“Do you and your partner have differing philosophies on Apocalypse Management? I CACKLED reading Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend. I cackled, and then I brought the ARC back to the bookstore and told Manager John he should read it, but then the bookstore owner did a legit doubletake and started paying Proper Attention when I said 'so they're a couple on vacation in the Bahamas and THE SUN EXPLODES and now they're forming a desperate island society and culture as everything implodes and the rich guests steal all the food and raid the vending machines' and then he stole it from John's desk. ARC-yoinking is a compliment to authors, let me tell you. You would not think that the end of the world would be hilarious, but it is. I, too, would get sidetracked into a conversation about how to retrieve your Netflix password when confronting a madman with a gun. In addition to the lols, there are also deep themes about boiling your life down to what is really important around you, and to the paralysis of Potential, and grief of wasted time, and to standing up and doing The Next Right Thing instead of the Easy Thing. Also, I must say, this book made me feel good about all of my hobbies being rooted in apocalypse preparation as an anxiety coping mechanism. I would have been amazing at sewing those hotel duvet covers into jackets as the temperature plummets. There were no dragons, except other people.”

“A madcap romp of satire, egomaniacal villains, light twists, murder, love, humor, absurdity...the most fun book I've read in a while.”

“This was one of the funniest books I've listened to in a while - and absurdly so! Honestly, who is in charge of this romp of an apocalypse? The preacher's crazy wife - who's all about her Beach Bod - or the insane "security" force with lots of brawn but no brains? I don't remember when I've been so amused by the end of the world. ”

But after a few Miller Lites in paradise with his girlfriend, Mara, things are starting to look up.Then the sun explodes. With the island resort suddenly plunged into darkness (he really should’ve sprung for the travel insurance), Dan’s holiday goes from bad to worse when elite guests stage a coup and commandeer supplies. As temperatures drop and class tensions rise, revolution begins to brew on the island, and Dan accidentally becomes a beacon of hope for the surviving vacationers. But when one six-person plane is discovered that could get them back to the mainland, Dan realizes he has a choice to make. Does he escape the island with Mara? Or does he stay and fight to become the most unlikely hero of the end of the world?“The end of the world has never been so fun! Explosively funny and terrifyingly plausible in its depiction of the apocalypse, this cinematic debut had me LOLing, cringing, and cheering throughout. I absolutely blazed through this earth-shattering action romp.”—Josh Winning, author of The Shadow Glass
