River Reader Books
Lexington, MO
There are only about 30 independent bookstores in Missouri. We happen to be one of them.
These days it's easy to get online and buy what you search for. But nothing can replace browsing a brick and mortar bookstore. Searching takes a backseat, and discovery kicks in!
River Reader serves the small town of Lexington, a rural community of only 4,500 people. We set up shop in 2004, completely renovating the interior of a 2,000 square foot building built in the 1880's. We offer a great selection of general interest books, civil war history, toys & games, and a full service espresso bar with cafe seating. We periodically show local artists' works in our small gallery.
Our shop is small, informal, and as a social hub we've created our own culture in the shop. There may be music, a spirited debate, an author event, an art class...but there is always something going on at the bookstore.
We've gotten behind many causes over the years. We've been involved with World Book Night, donated books to the troops, partnered in an author signing that offered ceu's to educators, and we get behind that which is important to the area.
We are involved with the local community, local projects & initiatives, fundraisers, and are working closely with area teachers.
We invite you to visit River Reader Books and the Lexington region. It's a short and beautiful drive and we promise a relaxed and fun experience with lots to explore.
Long live independent bookstores!
