We understand that women can be multiple things at once. Women can be anything they want to be, even if those things seem contradictory. Strong and vulnerable, sexual and reserved, outspoken and personable, book smart and street smart. We want to create a space where women feel empowered to embrace every aspect of themselves. By existing fully as ourselves, we will dismantle the patriarchy and white supremacy. By making resources accessible, Subverting Expectations is aiding and abetting people to create their own destinies and to live their most authentic lives. We are co-conspirators to historically underrepresented and marginalized communities. We will discuss social issues and share knowledge on how to be a part of the solution. We are here to uplift, empower, and create a safe place for everyone in the way they need and want us to. We understand that learning happens in different forms. We not only learn by reading but also having open discourse about books and life in general. We get to learn about other people, their experiences, and how they see the world. This makes us more aware, more empathetic, and that makes the world a better place. We love learning. We love knowing things. We want to provide people with the opportunity to fall in love with knowledge and learning.
